Great Britain’s actions in the Middle East, specifically speaking the Arab Israel War of 1948, impacted the Israeli-Arab conflict today.
The war was an effect of the rising tensions that had been there since Israel had announced its partition from Palestine in 1947. The Israelis took the land that Great Britain had originally set off for them, and settled there. The U.S. immediately recognized them as an independent state. This is an example of the continuation of the West's unconditional support of the Israelis.
The picture shows the unfair favoring the West has towards the Israelis, and how it ha driven Palestinians out of their homeland. The protesters show that even people who should "favor" the conflict, can see the flaws in it. This connects back to the War because the West was aiding Israel against the Arabs tremendously; even though Israel was not authorized by the United Nations to partition the land at that time.
The war is one of the reasons that the tensions have only continued to escalate. The Arab states had lost the war; which did nothing for the situation at hand. The reason for the failure of the war on the Arab’s part was the lack of unity. This made it easier for Britain to come in and help Israel. The aid Israel got from Britain helped them win the war, but it did also exhaust Britain, which lead them to withdraw from Palestine, and leave the situation up to the United Nations. After the war, Israel had won their land and officially became a state
How did this affect the conflict today
The War is just the beginning of the West favoring the Israelis in the conflict; which is also one of the reasons they've failed t reach peace. The West continuously aids Israel with everything they need to make the Arabs feel threatened, the war is onl something that the Arabs can feel bitter about; which only puts more strain onto things. Also, Israel has continued to take more of what was Palestine's land, leaving the Arabs disappointed in the situation.
